The Volta Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mawutor Agbavitor, has declared that President John Dramani Mahama is delivering on his promises at an unprecedented pace, bringing much-needed relief and development to the Volta Region just six months into his new administration.
In an interview, Mr Agbavitor said the NDC is staying true to its 2024 campaign pledges, describing the current pace of development as a clear departure from "politics as usual."
“This is not about empty promises—this is a government walking its talk. Barely seven months in, and the Volta Region is already seeing real results,” he said.
Coastal Protection and Economic Revamp
A major highlight of the Mahama administration’s early delivery in the Volta Region is the commencement of Phase II of the Blekusu Coastal Protection Project. President Mahama cut the sod for the project on Saturday, 19th July 2025, bringing renewed hope to thousands of coastal residents who have suffered years of tidal wave destruction.
“This project goes beyond concrete and stone—it restores dignity and security to families who have suffered for far too long,” Mr Agbavitor emphasised.
He revealed that alongside the sea defence walls, the project will include a modern fish market, cold storage facilities, and other infrastructure aimed at revitalising local economies.

Markets and Roads on the Agenda
The NDC regional chair also confirmed that the Aflao Asigame Market project, funded through a $30 million Chinese grant, is set to begin soon. This, he noted, will transform Aflao into an even more vibrant commercial hub at Ghana’s busiest border.
On road infrastructure, Mr Agbavitor announced that the long-neglected Ho-Aflao stretch will finally see major upgrades.
“I can tell you on authority that by August 2025, six contractors will be awarded the Asikuma to Aflao stretch. The Eastern Corridor road is no longer a forgotten promise.”
Relief for Flood Victims and Bold Action on Corruption
According to the Volta NDC chair, the government is also committed to compensating victims of the Akosombo and Kpong Dam spillage, with dredging of the Volta Lake set to begin soon to prevent future disasters.
He further commended President Mahama for taking a tough stance against corruption and illegal mining, citing the recent directive for the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate allegations against top NDC officials.
“Last week, the President directed EOCO to investigate the National Organiser and National Vice Chairman over galamsey allegations. That is the mark of a fearless leader committed to real change,” Mr Agbavitor noted.
Call for Continued Support
He urged residents of the Volta Region to continue trusting President Mahama’s leadership, promising that development will reach every corner of the region.
“From market women in Aflao to farmers in Akatsi, from residents of Hohoe to the tidal wave victims of Anloga—the NDC is here to deliver. President Mahama is proving once again that he is a man of his word.”
The Volta Regional NDC believes that with this pace of delivery, the region is poised for a new era of growth, infrastructure development, and social protection.
