Chief Executive Officer of Goldbod, Sammy Gyamfi, has denied allegations that he purchased property in the United States for his wife or her alleged sister.
The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) described the claims as baseless and malicious.
He has consequently filed a GH¢10 million defamation suit against media personality Afia Schwarzenegger at the High Court.
In his statement of claim filed on Wednesday, 23 July, Mr Gyamfi contends that the defamatory publications by Afia Schwarzenegger were “not only false but also malicious and deliberately contrived to damage his hard-earned reputation and cause the Ghanaian public to see him as morally depraved and without any scruples.”
He also denies having any romantic relationships with students at the University of Ghana or purchasing vehicles for any so-called girlfriends, as alleged.
Mr Gyamfi further asserts that he has not acquired any property in the United States or elsewhere for his wife or any relative of hers, noting specifically that “his wife does not even have any sister called ‘Vida’ as published by the Defendant,” and that any reasonable investigation would have revealed this fact.
He accused the defendant of publishing the claims with full knowledge of their falsity or with “unpardonably reckless disregard for the truth.”
According to the suit, since the publication of the said statements, Mr Gyamfi has received a barrage of phone calls and has had to deal with “very embarrassing and difficult questions” from high-ranking government officials, senior NDC members, friends, family, and associates both locally and internationally.
The lawsuit seeks not only damages but also to restore his reputation and deter similar conduct in future.
