The Kusaas Diaspora Union (KUDU) has called for urgent state protection for the Member of Parliament for Garu, Dr. Thomas Anabah, following alleged death threats over his public commentary on the Bawku conflict.
In a statement, KUDU condemned the threats as a “cowardly and criminal” attempt to silence voices upholding the Supreme Court’s 2003 ruling on the Bawku chieftaincy dispute, which legally favored the Kusaas.
The group said it had received information, also shared by journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr, that Anabah’s life is at risk for his advocacy.
KUDU warned that past threats had ended in fatal attacks, referencing the recent murder of a Kusasi chief and his Bisa associate in Kumasi as an alarming escalation of Mamprusi extremism beyond Bawku.
“These threats constitute terrorism, an outright affront to Ghana’s democracy, the rule of law, and the sanctity of human life,” the statement read.
KUDU outlined three key demands: immediate and full security protection for Mr Anabah and others under threat, prosecution of those behind the threats, and a public assurance from the president affirming commitment to law and safety.
The group warned any attack on the Garu MP would be seen as “a declaration of war” against truth, justice, and Ghana’s constitutional order, and pledged to escalate the matter internationally if no action is taken.
