A major fire broke out at the Accra Tourist Information Centre in the early hours of Monday, prompting a swift and large-scale response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
According to an official update from the GNFS, the incident was reported at exactly 01:02 hours. The first fire engine, dispatched from the GNFS National Headquarters, arrived on the scene within two minutes, at 01:04 hours.
Additional support came from fire crews stationed at Flagstaff House, Circle, Accra City, and the Ministries, as well as a Rapid Intervention Vehicle (RIV) from headquarters.
Firefighters battled the blaze for over two hours, finally bringing it under control at 03:32 hours.
Even after subduing the flames, personnel remained on-site to carry out rigorous firefighting and mop-up operations to fully extinguish residual hotspots and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures.
Fortunately, no injuries were recorded. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, with investigations set to commence shortly.
