The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted two Ghana Police Service officers for their bravery in rescuing two robbery victims and arresting seven suspects during an operation in the Greater Accra and Eastern Regions.
Chief Inspector Patience Kotoka, stationed at the Anyaa District Police Command, will attend the next Police Cadet Course at the Police Academy and, upon successful completion, be commissioned into the Senior Officer Corps.
Constable Joseph Akondoh, also from the same command, has been promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.
According to a statement from the Police Service, copied to the Ghana News Agency, the promotions followed a successful operation on 7th August 2025 at Ablekuma Borkorborkor.
At about 12:30 a.m., the two officers, supported by four Community Police Assistants (CPAs), intercepted a green pickup truck during a snap check.
Two passengers jumped from the open bucket of the vehicle and called for help, explaining that they had been attacked the previous night in a robbery involving their 5,400-litre fuel tanker near Nsawam.
The officers acted swiftly, rescuing the victims and arresting one suspect at the scene. Intelligence-led follow-up operations in the Eastern Region led to the arrest of six more suspects and the recovery of the stolen fuel tanker along with other exhibits.
On 8th August 2025, the IGP and the Police Management Board formally honoured the two officers and the CPAs at the Police Headquarters for their diligence, vigilance, and commitment to duty.
Mr Yohuno praised their professionalism and encouraged all personnel to emulate their example, reaffirming the Police Administration’s resolve to recognise and reward exceptional service.
