The Secretariat of the Volta Trade and Investment Fair has urged Ghanaians to renew their commitment to ending illegal mining following the August 6, 2025, military helicopter crash.
It stressed that it would be the "most fitting tribute" to the memory of the eight people who lost their lives during a mission to find a solution to the environmental menace.
“We honour their commitment and service to our country and believe the most fitting tribute to their memory is to intensify the fight against illegal mining,” stated a communique signed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Volta Trade and Investment Fair, Fred Avornyo.
He shared in the grief of the nation on the tragic loss of the eight, who included two cabinet ministers, three senior government officials, and three crew members.
Mr. Avornyo decried the state in which miners are degrading the environment in search of precious minerals, which, he said, “threatens the very foundation of Ghana's horticulture and cocoa exports, with the risk of heavy metal contamination in our produce.”
“We call for a renewed, united, and aggressive national effort involving government, traditional authorities, industry, civil society, and all citizens to safeguard our environment, protect our agricultural heritage, and secure the future of generations to come,” he added.
Mr. Avornyo announced that the slot pulsa secretariat has postponed the Volta Fair Corporate Games scheduled for Saturday, August 16, 2025, to honour the fallen heroes.
“May the souls of our departed heroes rest in perfect peace,” he concluded.
