Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice has directed the newly sworn-in board of the Office of the Registrar of Companies to eliminate the influence of ‘goro’ boys in company registration processes.
At the inauguration of the board, Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dominic Ayine charged members to take decisive steps to remove ‘goro’ boys from the registration system.
“I want to pledge that we have to eliminate the ‘goro’ boys from the system because they raise the cost of company registration. What they end up, I mean, getting people to do, is to pay bribes in the system.
So for instance, the goro boy takes his fee then has to give somebody in the system part of that fee in order that the person will speed up the registration”.
Chairman of the board, David Kwesi Kudoadzi, accepted the task entrusted to him and promised to work to uphold his office.
“We can only promise that we will discharge this responsibility with our utmost ability so we can advance the cause for this country”.
The 10-member committee consists of the following persons:
- Chairperson; Presidential Nominee – David Kwesi Kudzoadzi
- Representative of the Attorney General's Office – Justice Srem Sai Ph.D
- Representative of the Ministry of Trade and Industry – Noah Tumfo
- Representative of the Securities and Exchange Commission – Deborah Mawuse Agyemfra
- Representative from the Private Enterprise Federation – Gloria Kafui Hiadzi
- A lawyer with at least ten years’ experience
in corporate law practice – George Amissah Jnr. - Two persons with expertise in corporate
law practice, including a female nominated
by the president – a) Selina Baaba Mensah
b) Ferdinand D. Adadzi - Representative from Ghana Association of Restructuring
& Insolvency Advisors – Eric Nana Nipa - Representative from Institute of Chartered Accountants,
Ghana – Prof. Williams Abaayaawien - The Registrar of Companies – Maame Samma Peprah.
