The Deputy General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has alleged that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has procured uniforms for its internal security personnel ahead of the upcoming Akwatia by-election.
He claimed that these operatives are expected to pose as state security officers on election day to influence the outcome of the poll in favour of the NDC.
"We have heard that they have sewn some uniforms for their security persons to go to Akwatia and cause mayhem. They should not bring people in the name of security, put uniforms on them and arm them to move around. We are very aware, and we know the uniforms they are going to use," he alleged on JoyNews' The Pulse on Monday, August 25.
Mr Mohammed cautioned the NDC against what he described as an unlawful plan, warning that the NPP would not tolerate such acts.
He added that while the NPP has advised its members to act responsibly, it would not hesitate to apprehend any imposters and hand them over to the Ghana Police Service.
"We know the uniforms they are going to use, and anybody we find in those uniforms will be personally arrested and handed over to the Police," he stated.
The Akwatia by-election, scheduled following the death of the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi of the NPP, is expected to be fiercely contested.
