The Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen (GNAFF) has petitioned the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) to take disciplinary action against Dr. David Tenkorang Twum, General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), over what it describes as “derogatory and unprovoked” comments.
According to GNAFF, Dr. Tenkorang, during an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on August 22, 2025, made offensive remarks about the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, as well as Ghanaian farmers.
The Association insists such conduct is unbecoming of a professional leader whose position demands integrity and respect.
In a statement signed by its President, Michael Tetteh Kwetey, and General Secretary, Dr. Abutu Kapori, GNAFF said it had earlier called on Dr. Tenkorang to retract his remarks and apologise to farmers and fishermen within 24 hours, but he failed to comply.
“Farmers and fishermen are the backbone of Ghana’s economy and food security. It is therefore deeply troubling and unacceptable that the leader of a professional association such as GRNMA would use such offensive language to denigrate them,” the petition read.
The group is now urging the NMC to investigate the matter and impose appropriate sanctions under its professional code of ethics.
It also wants the Council to compel Dr. Tenkorang to issue a formal apology to farmers, fishermen, and the Health Minister.
GNAFF argues that decisive action is needed to safeguard the dignity of the nursing and midwifery profession and to restore public confidence in its leadership.
