Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has expressed confidence that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will emerge victorious in the forthcoming Akwatia by-election.
He explained that the party is motivated to honour the late Defence Minister and NDC Director of Elections and IT, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, who, he said, played a pivotal role in strengthening the party’s electoral strategies prior to his untimely death.
The Akwatia by-election, set for 2 September 2025, has been necessitated by the passing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi. It is expected to be a tightly fought contest between the NDC and the NPP.
Speaking to journalists ahead of the Africa–Singapore Business Forum on Monday, 25 August, Mr Kwakye Ofosu said the NDC was resolved to build on Dr Boamah’s legacy.
“We all miss Dr Omane Boamah. Before his tragic passing, he had already begun laying the foundations for a resounding victory in Akwatia. In his memory, we will carry out those plans and strengthen them,” he said.
He added: “We will inject even greater momentum and fine-tune the strategy to secure victory for the NDC in Akwatia so that the people can enjoy the same quality representation in Parliament that other constituencies are experiencing.”
