Tamale Central stands at a defining moment. The passing of the late Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, a man remembered for his fearlessness, humility, and unwavering commitment to justice, has left a void in the heart of the constituency.
His tireless service to the people set a high standard, and now the task before the National Democratic Congress delegates is to choose a candidate who can continue that legacy and carry Tamale Central into a new era of opportunity and progress.
Twelve candidates have gone through the vetting process and will be contesting in the upcoming primaries:
- Prof. Alidu Seidu
- Mariama Naana Salifu
- Ing. Aliu Abdul Hamid
- Prof. Abdul Razak Abubakari
- Shamima Yakubu
- Dr. Seidu Fiter Mohammed
- Dr. Abdul Rahaman Rashid
- Mulaika Salisu
- Alhassan Osman Gomda (Naa Simani)
- Alhaji Alhassan Mbalba
- Sadat Haruna
- Abdul Hannan Gundado
Among these contenders, one figure stands uniquely tall: Alhaji Alhassan Mbalba.

Alhaji Mbalba is a distinguished and experienced social worker, with a career rooted in safeguarding and community advocacy.
As the former Chairman of the NDC UK and Ireland Chapter, he demonstrated exemplary leadership, inclusivity, and accountability, uniting people from diverse backgrounds to strengthen the party’s influence abroad.
He brings a wealth of international exposure and practical skills that can bridge the gap between Tamale Central and the Ghanaian diaspora, unlocking investment, jobs, and new opportunities for the youth.
Leadership Grounded in Service and Transformation
Alhaji Mbalba’s mission is clear: to offer Tamale Central inclusive, accountable, and transformative leadership. His priorities include:
Continuing the Legacy of Hon. Murtala Ibrahim: Completing ongoing projects and upholding his fearless commitment to justice and service.
Youth Empowerment and Employment: Equipping young people through skills training, apprenticeships, and entrepreneurship programs while attracting diaspora investment to create sustainable businesses and jobs.
Tackling the Drug Menace: Determined to address the growing challenge of substance abuse, Alhaji Mbalba intends to establish a modern rehabilitation centre in Tamale Central.
This centre will provide counselling, prevention, and recovery support for affected youth while serving as a hub for community education and awareness.
Education and Skills Development: Supporting schools, mentoring the youth, and promoting equal access to higher education and vocational training for all, especially girls.
Healthcare and Wellbeing: Expanding healthcare access, promoting mental health, and linking Tamale Central to international partnerships and resources.
Inclusive Leadership: Building consensus through chiefs, elders, women, youth, and religious leaders while ensuring transparency and accountability in governance.
There is a Dagbon saying: “The one who listens to the drum knows the direction of the town.” Alhaji Mbalba listens to the heartbeat of Tamale Central. He understands the needs of the people and is prepared to lead with both vision and humility.
The future beckons Tamale Central
Delegates and citizens of Tamale Central, this by-election is not just about filling a seat in Parliament. It is about choosing a leader who can combine tradition with progress, humility with courage, and continuity with transformation.
Alhaji Alhassan Mbalba pledges to serve with integrity, passion, and accountability. With him, Tamale Central will not only continue the good work of the late Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed but will also rise to new heights of opportunity, dignity, and development.
The choice is clear. The time is now. The future is waiting.
