The Dormaa West District Director of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Daniel Naanwinkoma, says the organisation is engaging six border communities in the district to ascertain the movements of victims of the Gbinyiri clash, fleeing their homes in the Savannah Region.
The communities comprise Amoakokrom, Kokrogya, Frempongkrom, Nkrankwanta, Yawusukrom and Adiemra, all border communities along the Ghana-Cote D’Ivoire boundary lines in the district.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nkrankwanta, Mr Naanwinkoma explained that the engagements with the traditional authorities, opinion and Assembly Members in the area were necessary for the nation to put in place the appropriate interventions towards assisting the victims.
He said: “We know there's a conflict and some of the victims are presently in Techiman and Wenchi Municipalities.
So, if there are border towns we must go down to the ground and check if some of the victims and the vulnerable people are present there and their condition too”.
Mr Naanwinkoma said presently, NADMO could not confirm if some of the victims had fled to neighbouring Cote d'Ivoire, “which has proximity with the Dormaa West District, a cocoa growing area”.
He said: “If we get confirmation of any arrival of the victims or their presence in those communities, we will compile the data and report our findings to the relevant authorities for the necessary interventions”.
