The Ghana Police Service has announced a series of temporary road closures and diversions in Accra on Saturday, September 6, 2025, to facilitate the smooth running of the Millennium Marathon organized by Millennium Marathon Sports Limited (MMSL).
In a statement issued on its Facebook page on Friday, September 5, the Police urged the public to take note of the affected routes and plan their movements accordingly.
Roads to be closed include:
Atta Mills High Street towards Osu
Liberation Road, 37 Intersections towards the Central Business District (CBD)
Independence Avenue at the National Theatre Traffic Light
La Beach Road
Oxford Street
Cantonments Road
Jawaharlal Nehru Road
Alternative routes for motorists:
Motorists from Liberation Road are advised to use the Kaokudi Road through Kanda Highway and link up to Barnes Road to the CBD or Giffard Road to Osu.
Those using the Atta Mills Highway should divert to Liberia Road and Barnes Road to 37 Intersections to access Osu and La.
Motorists on Giffard Street should use 37 Intersections through Kaokudi to Dr. Hilla Limann High Street to reach the CBD.
The Police cautioned that no vehicle will be allowed to park on the affected roads during the marathon. Traffic police officers will be stationed at key points to assist motorists and ensure minimal disruption.
The public is therefore advised to plan for alternative routes to avoid inconvenience.
