The campaign team of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says he will formally respond to a petition submitted to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) once the office begins its official processes.
The petition, filed by Solomon Owusu and his lawyers, accuses Dr. Bawumia of illicit enrichment and possible breaches of Ghana’s political financing laws, citing his own claims of procuring over 300 pickup vehicles and mobilizing vast resources for political campaigns.
But Miracles Aboagye, spokesperson for the Bawumia Campaign, said the development is not alarming and that Dr. Bawumia will cooperate fully with the OSP when required.
“We have not yet seen the petition. When we eventually receive it, we’ll look into it and understand what the issues are. I’m sure the OSP will have its processes, and when that happens, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will respond accordingly,” Aboagye stated.
He argued that political fundraising is a normal practice in Ghana, explaining that politicians often rely on friends, family, supporters, and organized fundraising activities to raise campaign resources.
“Every citizen has the right to petition, but there is nothing necessarily alarming here. Raising 300 or even 500 pickups is possible through legitimate mobilisation,” he added.
