Head coach of the Black Starlets, Prosper Narteh Ogum, believes the preparations ahead of the game against Nigeria paid off following their progression to the final of the ongoing WAFU B U-17 Cup of Nations.
Ghana defeated Nigeria 2-0 on Tuesday evening to reach the final of the competition and book a place in next year's U-17 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Morocco.
Prior to the game against Nigeria, the Black Starlets had only won once, beating Niger in their final group game. They drew against Togo and lost heavily to Cote d'Ivoire in their first two matches.
However, Ogum said a lot had to be done for the game against their arch-rivals.
"We prepared them mentally and psychologically that they needed to be focused throughout the 90 minutes, and try as much as possible not to commit early mistakes that we've made in our previous games, where we had a red card and conceded early goals," he said at his post-match presser.
"Once they are able to do that, and then we travel into the game, they will be able to get their confidence and play."
Both goals against Nigeria came in the first half, with Michael Mawuli opening the scoring before Robinho Yao Gavi doubled the lead 10 minutes later.
Ghana will now face Cote d'Ivoire in the final which is scheduled for Friday, October 3, at the Charles Konan Bannu Stadium.
