The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has honoured JoyNews journalist Erastus Asare Donkor with a Citation of Honour for his courageous and impactful reporting on illegal mining, also known as galamsey.
Mr Donkor was recognised during UTAG’s 22nd Biennial National Delegates Congress held on September 30, 2025, at the Palace Hill Hotel in Aburi in the Eastern region.

In a citation signed by UTAG National Secretary, Prof Eliasu Mumuni, the association praised his fearless journalism, which often comes at great personal risk, for amplifying the urgent call for environmental stewardship in Ghana.
The recognition, UTAG noted, celebrates Mr Donkor's courage, professionalism, and contribution to national development through consistent investigative reporting on the devastating effects of galamsey.
Erastus Asare Donkor is an investigative and environmental journalist known for his reporting on the impacts of illegal mining and climate change in Ghana.
Mr Donkor has received several awards for his journalism, including the Journalist of the Year award from the Ghana Journalists Association at the PAV Ansah GJA awards in 2022.
