An Accra Circuit Court has remanded four persons into police custody for allegedly running fake food delivery services online.
Elliot Sotama Atsu, 20, Elijah Sotama Etse, 20, Jethro Atsu, 20, and Obed Selasi Agboli are alleged to have engaged in fraudulent activities by making unsuspecting customers place orders for food through mobile money advance payment.
Victims who fell prey to those activities never received their food orders. The four accused persons’ pleas were not taken because investigations were underway.
They have been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, to wit, defrauding and defrauding by false pretenses.
They are expected to reappear on November 3.
The facts before the court are that on October 10, 2025, following intelligence gathered on suspected fraudulent activities of some persons within Sogakope and its environs, personnel from the Cybercrime Unit of the Ghana Police Service proceeded and arrested the suspects.
They were arrested from their hideout at PK's Luxury Apartment located at Haatso in Accra.
The suspects engaged in fraudulent activities by creating fake online food delivery service platforms for well-known food vendors such as Papaye, Pizzaman Chickenman, KFC, and Mawarko.Â
Those fraudulent websites and social media pages mimicked the well-known and reputable food brands.
Due to that, unsuspecting customers who come across these fake portals on Google placed orders for food online and were instructed to make payments in advance through mobile money accounts provided by the scammers.
After payment was made, the victims never received the food they ordered.
Twelve mobile phones suspected to have been used in the fraudulent activities were retrieved during the operation and will undergo Digital Forensic examination to assist in the investigation.
