The Municipal Chief Executive for Asokore Mampong, Ben Abdallah Alhassan, has announced that two new Astro Turf pitches will be completed by next year as part of efforts to promote sports development in the municipality.
According to him, the initiative forms part of the Assembly’s broader plan to provide modern sporting facilities for the youth and nurture local talent in football and other field sports.
Mr. Alhassan was speaking to Luv Sports on the upcoming main Ashanti Inter-District Soccer Competition being organized by the Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene.
He emphasized that the projects, once completed, will not only enhance sports participation but also help reduce youth unemployment and social vices by offering productive avenues for recreation.
“Hopefully next year the Asokore Mampong District will be organizing ours on a brand new modern Astro Turf facility since we have two of them currently ongoing and we are right on course to meet the December ending deadline so by next year, the competition will be more interesting.
“We are having one at the Akurem Highlanders Park and Aboabo Middle B Park. Three days ago, they did installation of the streets lighting, all the carpets have arrived and in the next week or two, all of them will be laid,” he said.
The Ashanti Regional Inter-District Soccer Competition is expected to kick off late November 2025.
