The White House has recognised Breast Care International America, led by Ghanaian medical professional Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, with the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award for exceptional dedication to volunteerism and community service.
The award, jointly presented by AmeriCorps and the Office of the President of the United States, celebrates the organisation’s sustained efforts in promoting health education, advocacy, and breast cancer awareness across communities.
A citation signed by former U.S. President Joseph R. Biden Jr. in 2024 commended Dr. Wiafe Addai and her team for dedicating over 5,000 hours of volunteer service toward improving lives through outreach and medical support.

“The American story depends not on any one of us, not on some of us, but on all of us,” President Biden wrote in the citation. “By sharing your time and passion, you are helping discover and deliver solutions to the challenges we face — solutions that we need now more than ever.”
Reacting to the recognition, Dr. Wiafe Addai, who also serves as Chief Executive Officer of the Peace and Love Hospitals in Ghana, expressed deep appreciation to the U.S. government for the honour. She described the award as a motivation to intensify her advocacy for women’s health both locally and internationally.
“This award is a testament to our collective efforts to raise awareness and save lives,” she said. “We remain committed to collaborating with American authorities and other global partners to tackle breast cancer and improve access to care.”

The President’s Lifetime Achievement Award is one of the highest civilian honours for volunteer service in the United States. It recognises individuals and organisations whose selfless contributions have had a lasting impact on society.
Dr. Wiafe Addai’s recognition adds to her long list of international honours for leadership in healthcare, women’s empowerment, and cancer prevention initiatives across Africa and beyond.
