The Ghana Medical and Dental Council has arraigned a 41-year-old businessman for allegedly presenting himself as a medical doctor and practising medicine and dentistry without the required license.
Ebenezer Sarpong, a trained Physician Assistant from a private university in Accra, is also alleged to have received payment for medical services, contrary to the Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Act, 2013 (Act 857).
Sarpong has pleaded not guilty to charges of willfully and falsely using the title “Dr.”, practising or professing to practice medicine or dentistry without registration, and receiving payment for such practice.
The court, presided over by Susana Eduful, granted him bail in the sum of GH¢50,000, with two sureties to be justified with landed property.
The case has been adjourned to December 10, 2025.
The Prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Jonas Lawer, told the court that the complainant was the Administrative Manager in charge of Complaints and Investigations at the Medical and Dental Council.
Sarpong, a resident of Mamprobi, is said to be the owner of Good Care Medical Centre located at Swalaba near Bukom, Accra.
On August 14, 2025, during an undercover operation, the complainant allegedly found Sarpong practising medicine without authorisation in the facility.
Four days later, the Council reported the matter to the Regional Police Command, leading to Sarpong’s arrest.
Police reportedly found him consulting patients, some on admission and others at the Outpatient Department.
During investigations, Sarpong allegedly admitted in his caution statement that he was a trained Physician Assistant but had no license to practice medicine.
Further investigations confirmed that he had been using the title “Dr.” and receiving payment for medical services, contrary to Act 857.
