Ghana’s newly appointed Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Samuel Yao Kumah, has officially assumed his role after presenting his Letters of Credence to UN Secretary-General António Guterres at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Ambassador Kumah conveyed warm greetings from President John Dramani Mahama and reaffirmed Ghana’s firm commitment to multilateralism and the ideals of the UN Charter.

He assured the Secretary-General of Ghana’s readiness to work with all Member States to advance global peace and security, sustainable development, and the protection of human rights.
He praised Mr Guterres for his leadership amid heightened geopolitical tensions and described the UN80 Initiative as a pivotal effort to strengthen the Organisation for modern global challenges.

Ambassador Kumah also pledged to support the UN’s work and contribute meaningfully to its core objectives.
Secretary-General Guterres, in response, hailed Ghana as a steadfast partner and a strong pillar of multilateralism.

He applauded Ghana’s democratic values, commitment to good governance, and leadership on issues affecting West Africa and the Sahel.
He expressed confidence that Ambassador Kumah’s tenure would deepen the long-standing cooperation between Ghana and the United Nations.

Mr Guterres reaffirmed Ghana’s status as a key member of the global body and said he was optimistic the new envoy would not only advance Ghana’s interests but also represent Africa with distinction.
The Secretary-General concluded by welcoming Ambassador Kumah to New York and asked him to convey his best wishes to President Mahama.
