The Director-General of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), Professor Samuel Ofori, has offered an in-depth reflection on Ghana’s new Senior High School (SHS) curriculum, outlining its strengths, emerging challenges, and the technological reforms being deployed to enhance teaching and learning.
Speaking on the latest episode of the EduTalk podcast, aired on JoyNews, Professor Ofori noted that the new curriculum was designed to align secondary education with contemporary global standards while nurturing critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills among learners.
He highlighted the curriculum’s focus on competency-based teaching approaches and its intent to better prepare students for higher education and the evolving job market.
Addressing the benefits, he emphasised the curriculum’s flexibility, relevance, and stronger emphasis on practical learning.
Professor Ofori also detailed the suite of digital and technological tools NaCCA has introduced to support the curriculum’s rollout.
These include platforms designed to provide teachers with updated learning materials, quality assurance systems, and the forthcoming mobile application that will allow parents and guardians to access their wards’ academic performance in real time.
He revealed that these innovations are part of a broader strategy to modernise Ghana’s education ecosystem and drive efficiency across key administrative and instructional processes.
