Former Minister for Roads and Highways and MP for Bantama, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has welcomed President John Dramani Mahama’s renewed commitment to completing the Accra–Kumasi Highway dualisation project, describing the assurance as “encouraging and necessary”.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, December 4, a day after President Mahama inspected ongoing works on the corridor, Mr Asenso-Boakye said the President’s pledge to finish the dualisation and begin an entirely new Accra–Kumasi Expressway within the remaining three years of his mandate was a significant undertaking.
He provided clarity on the scale of work remaining, noting that the existing dualisation requires two major tasks: completion of the 46-kilometre bypasses at Osino, Anyinam–Enyiresi and Konongo, now at 72 per cent progress, and dualisation of the outstanding 94-kilometre stretch of the corridor.
“These are significant undertakings, each demanding careful planning, sustained financing and efficient execution,” the Bantama MP wrote.
Mr Asenso-Boakye, who supervised the project during his tenure as Roads Minister, expressed hope that the government will follow through with its commitment.
“I wish the President and the Government Godspeed!” he added.
