'Mental Pictures’ has become an institution for lovers of Ghanaian poetry and culture. The series began years ago as a platform for spoken-word art, folklore, music and live performance, weaving together tradition and modernity through powerful storytelling. The 2025 edition marks its ninth outing.
In the previous edition, held in November 2024 and titled ‘Bagyina Reloaded’, Nana Asaase brought together poets, musicians and cultural performers for an evening of creative expression at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel.
Nana Asaase, born Philip Boakye Dua Oyinka, has over two decades of experience in the literary and spoken-word space, gaining recognition for blending English and Ghanaian languages, and using vivid metaphors and rhythm to explore themes rooted in African identity, heritage and contemporary life.
As the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Asaase Inscriptions, Ghana’s first literary coaching agency and cultural consultancy, he has dedicated himself to cultivating and promoting literary artistry in Ghana.
His work draws on deep roots in Ghanaian oral tradition, combining modern poetic sensibilities with folklore, music and cultural memory.
