The Director of Legal Affairs of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gary Nimako Marfo, has urged young lawyers and law students to show fidelity to the law and to exhibit mastery in their chosen field.
Speaking at this year’s Annual General Conference of the Law Students’ Network (LSN) at the University of Professional Studies over the weekend, Mr. Nimako noted that mastery of the law by the students would be recognized first, before their membership or affiliation with the Party, and encouraged them to demonstrate scholarship in their field.
According to Mr. Marfo, lawyers should speak the law, backed by authority, and not engage in propaganda anchored in political emotions.
The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North and former National Organiser of the NPP, Sammi Awuku, urged members of the LSN to continue working hard for the NPP.
He assured the students that their efforts would not be in vain under a future NPP government.
He further assured members of the LSN that the Party would recognize them in its activities, noting that when a flagbearer is elected after 31 January 2026, that flagbearer would work with the LSN in various areas such as advocacy and research.
For his part, Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, former Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, encouraged the law students to show respect to their office staff when they are called to the Bar, noting that lawyers often learn a great deal from office staff, such as clerks, sometimes even more than from law books.
He also admonished that upon their call to the Bar, lawyers should show respect to judges and should not attempt to fight them.
Other speakers at the event were Nana Akwasi Awuah, former Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (now GoldBod), and Maataa Opare, Founder and Non-Executive Chairperson of Hawkhurst & Dua Property Services and Managing Partner of Hawkhurst & Dua Associates.
