Two persons have been injured in an attack by unknown gunmen Tuesday evening, near Walewale in the North East Region.
The incident occurred while a passenger bus was travelling from Bolgatanga to Tamale. The victims were sent to the Walewale Hospital medical treatment.
Speaking to JoyNews after the attack, the bus driver, Ransford Enyan said the bus initially departed Bolgatanga with few passengers and was later directed by the VVIP terminal to proceed to Tamale to pick additional passengers.
“The bus became full and we set off towards Tamale. When we got to the outskirts, I saw two tyres burning in the middle of the road, so I stopped. Suddenly, I heard gunshots. At first, I thought people were celebrating because of the Christmas festivities. But after another shot, one bullet entered the bus and hit a passenger in the head,” he recounted.
Mr Enyan said he immediately opened the doors to allow passengers to flee for safety.
“I also ran through the bush and went straight to the police station to report the incident. It happened a few minutes after 6:00 p.m.,” he added.
