The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) has completed a two-week practical training programme for newly recruited caterers in the Volta, Oti, and Bono Regions to enhance programme implementation and improve the quality of meals served to beneficiary schoolchildren.

The training focused on equipping caterers with practical skills in the effective utilisation of locally produced foodstuffs, in line with the programme’s objective of promoting local agriculture and ensuring the provision of nutritious meals.

Participants were also trained in food hygiene and safety, nutrition, portion control, the use of handy measures for serving meals, as well as proper kitchen maintenance.

According to a statement signed by the National Coordinator of the Programme, Hajia Fati Forgor, the capacity-building initiative forms part of GSFP’s broader strategy to improve service delivery, promote high standards of hygiene and nutrition, and support local economic development through the use of locally sourced food items.

The programme acknowledged the support and collaboration of key stakeholders, including Women in Agricultural Development, the Ghana Education Service, Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies, training facilitators, and other partners, whose contributions were instrumental to the successful implementation of the training.

“We wish all our stakeholders and Ghanaians at large a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year,” the statement said.

The statement reaffirmed GSFP’s commitment to continuous capacity building and stakeholder engagement to ensure the provision of safe, nutritious, and adequate meals for all beneficiary pupils nationwide.
