The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested two men for the unlawful possession of a large cache of ammunition following an operation at the Kantanso–Asankare Police Barrier in the Ashanti Region.
The suspects, identified as Kwame Afram, a bus driver, and Godfred Essel, his mate, were arrested on December 26, 2025, after police officers intercepted a Kia Granbird bus with registration number GT 5771-18.

The vehicle was travelling from Accra to Walewale, en route to Paga.
A search conducted on the bus uncovered two concealed containers holding a total of 2,600 rounds of AK-47 ammunition.

Further inspection led to the recovery of a bag hidden beneath the driver’s seat, containing two bulletproof plates, a black crushed helmet, and a pair of long boots.
The suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.
The bus and all recovered items have been impounded as police continue inquiries into the matter.
