Baldwin University College, one of Ghana’s foremost private universities, has secured accreditation status for its new medical school, enabling the recruitment of students for the inaugural class, which will begin in March 2026.
The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) programmes are set to commence in an academically rigorous and supportive learning environment.
This significant milestone validates that Baldwin University College has the resources, structures, and academic rigour to prepare students to become safe, competent, and effective physicians, as required by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and the Ghana Medical and Dental Council.
“What we have achieved reflects years of dedicated planning and development to build a medical school infrastructure that meets GTEC standards.
"This accomplishment was made possible through the collaborative efforts of faculty members and staff, colleagues from the Ghana Medical and Dental Council, GTEC and the University of Cape Coast, our affiliated institution.
“We are deeply grateful to all who contributed to this success,” President of Baldwin University College, Prof Akwasi Achampong, stated in a statement.
Baldwin University College, which is affiliated to the School of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Cape Coast, is located on Dr Achampong Campus, Dome Pillar 2, in Accra.
“The university is ready to contribute to the improvement of the health of Ghanaians through the provision of quality and affordable science education to qualified students in Ghana and the sub-region”, Prof Akwasi Achampong added.

The commencement of medical school at Baldwin University College comes at a time when the high rate of rejection of many students with good grades applying to public and a few private medical schools with limited facilities has become worrying to parents and guardians.
Baldwin University College’s accreditation has therefore come at an opportune time to ease the burden on the country's limited medical schools, thereby helping to increase the production of medical personnel in the country.
Baldwin University College has ultramodern facilities, including well-equipped laboratories, a physiology laboratory, hostel facilities, medical libraries, accommodation for visiting professors, and a state-of-the-art administration block.
It would also collaborate with revered medical institutions in the United States and Europe to give students exposure to help them excel in their chosen career.
The university offers students a rich, multidimensional educational experience in an academically challenging environment, fostering critical thinking and creative exploration while preparing them to live and work in the global world.
Baldwin University College, which was registered in 2007, in addition to the new medical school, offers programmes such as a BSc. Medical Laboratory Science, BSc. Software Engineering, BSc Information Technology and HND programmes.
