Following a presser of a rejoinder of December 23, 2025, that was headed “The Tanyigbe Traditional Council has formally reaffirmed the legitimacy of His Royal Highness Togbega Kodi Adiko VI as Paramount Chief of Tanyigbe.”
The Akoto Royal House of Tanyigbe Traditional Area wishes to re-clarify as follows:
The Volta Regional House of Chiefs nullified the enstoolment of Roland Adiko as Paramount Chief of Tanyigbe, and firmly upheld the rotational system governing succession to the Tanyigbe Paramountcy.
In a decisive conclusion delivered by VRHC Judicial Committee on March 21, 2025 on the case that ran from 2017/2019, the House held that historical records, living memory and unassailable documentary evidence clearly establish that the Akotos of the Doku-Dzehe clan were not caretaker chiefs but substantive paramount chiefs.
The Committee further affirmed that the late Togbe Kwasi Adiko V (died 2015, buried 2017) legitimately succeeded Togbe Kwami Ekpe Akoto II.
The Committee found that the Tanyigbe Paramountcy operates under a rotational system, contrary to claims that it is the exclusive preserve of the Kodivi clan.
On that basis, it ruled that following the death of Togbe Kwasi Adiko V, the Anyidoto clan and not the Kodivi clan was the appropriate lineage to present a candidate for the paramount stool.
Consequently, the Judicial Committee held that Roland Adiko, who was enstooled by the Kodivi clan, did not qualify under the rotational arrangement and ought not to have been enstooled.
His nomination, selection and enstoolment were therefore declared null and void and formally set aside.
The Committee further ruled that the Anyidoto clan had lawfully exercised its right within the rotational system by nominating and enstooling Togbe Etoi Kodzo as Paramount Chief, and accordingly entered judgment in favour of the Petitioners.
The claims of the Petitioners were said to have succeeded in their entirety.
The ruling also awarded costs of GH¢20,000 in favour of the Petitioners.
The judgment was signed by the Chairman of the Judicial Committee, Togbe Gbordzor III, with Togbe Adrakpanya VI and Togbega Sei II and Counsel Cephas Kwadzo Motey serving as members.
The verdict brings legal and customary clarity to a long-running chieftaincy dispute in the Tanyigbe Traditional Area and is expected to reset the leadership landscape in line with established tradition, institutional order and the rule of customary law.

Meanwhile, Mr Roland Adiko and his kingmakers have filed a fresh appeal at the National House of Chiefs in Kumasi, and claimed that by filing an APPEAL, the VRHC Judgment execution was no longer binding. The Appeal hearing started on December 9, 2025.
In response, the Akotoviwo, through their legal team, argued that the any claim of stay of execution is unlawful.
