The Ghana Police Service has arrested three suspects for their alleged involvement in a taxi-based phone and valuables-snatching syndicate operating on the streets.
The suspects, identified as Sasu Lawrence, also known as Agbe, Richard Osei, and Charles Kofi Nti, also known as Survivor, were picked up on January 12, 2026, following what police describe as intelligence-led operations.
Preliminary investigations suggest the group operates mainly in the early hours of the day, posing as taxi drivers to pick up passengers.
According to police, two of the suspects sit in the front seats of the taxi, while the third sits in the back.
Investigators say when a victim, mostly women, boards the vehicle, the suspects deliberately lock the doors to make it difficult for the passenger to alight.
Police say that as the victim struggles to open the door, the suspect, seated at the back, pretends to assist but allegedly steals the victim’s mobile phone or wallet in the process.
The suspects are currently in police custody and assisting with investigations.
Police say efforts are also underway to identify and arrest persons who receive and trade in the stolen items.
