Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Smith, has challenged a media report questioning the whereabouts of the convicted former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu.
The dispute emerged following a report by Asaase Radio, which stated that its review of the Nevada Southern Detention Centre’s website showed no record of Madam Tamakloe-Attionu being held there.
This contradicted an earlier statement from Ghana’s embassy in the US confirming her detention at the facility.
Ambassador Smith, speaking on JoyNews' The Pulse on January 16, dismissed the media outlet's findings. He affirmed that his information came from verified official sources and confirmed an upcoming court date for the former CEO.
“What you’re saying is that Asaase have issued their own counter-statement? But that is Asaase Radio… I don't know where they're coming from, why they want to muddy the waters,” Ambassador Smith stated.
“I have heard it from official sources, where this lady is being kept, and that she's going to go to court on the 21st (January).”
The Ambassador revealed that the outlet had attempted to contact him for comment, but he declined due to what he characterised as their "mischief" in attempting to "muddy the waters."
