Police in the Northern Region have arrested a key suspect in connection with a kidnapping incident at Wapuli, in what authorities describe as a major breakthrough in efforts to dismantle the criminal syndicate.

The suspect, identified as Hoyeefe Amadu, was arrested on January 20, 2026, at his hideout in a village near Watugu, a suburb of Gushegu.

The arrest follows earlier operations in which three suspects were picked up, and GH¢70,000 of the ransom was recovered.

In a statement signed by the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Lukman Neindow, police said the breakthrough follows the rescue of a 42-year-old man who was kidnapped on December 6, 2025.

According to the statement, the victim was subjected to violent attacks and sustained cutlass wounds while in captivity.

The kidnappers demanded GH¢100,000 for his release and received GH¢90,000 before he was freed.

Chief Inspector Neindow said the three suspects arrested earlier are currently on remand and assisting with investigations, as police intensify efforts to track down other members of the gang.
