Ghanaian epidemiologist and medical scientist Valentine Golden Ghanem is advocating for a data-driven rethinking of Ghana’s National Health Insurance Scheme, following the publication of his peer-reviewed analysis in the Cureus Medical Journal.
The study identifies persistent regional and rural exclusion patterns, particularly in northern districts, and challenges the effectiveness of uniform national enrolment strategies. According to Ghanem, health insurance reform must be informed by localised evidence rather than national averages.
His research positions geospatial intelligence and machine learning as essential tools for achieving universal health coverage, arguing that without spatially informed policy design, structural inequities will continue to undermine access to care.
