The aspirants in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries, together with party leaders, executives, and Members of Parliament, are converging at the party’s national headquarters in Accra as former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia prepares to be officially declared the party’s flagbearer.
The development follows the close of voting across the country, with preliminary results indicating a decisive victory for Dr Bawumia in the highly anticipated internal contest.
Supporters, national and regional executives, as well as sitting MPs, have been arriving at the headquarters amid heightened security, as the party’s Electoral Committee completes collation and prepares for the formal declaration of results.
The presidential primaries are viewed as a critical step in the NPP’s efforts to reorganise and reposition ahead of the 2028 general elections, following the party’s defeat in the 2024 polls.
The presence of aspirants, executives and legislators at the headquarters is intended to project unity after the contest, with several candidates already urging their supporters to rally behind the eventual winner.

Once officially declared, Dr Bawumia is expected to deliver a victory address, outlining his vision for the party and calling for cohesion as the NPP shifts focus to recapturing power in 2028.
The party has described the primaries as largely peaceful and well-organised, reinforcing its commitment to internal democracy and party cohesion.
