Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has pledged to commit his energy to uniting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and rebuilding support across the country following the party’s presidential primary.
In a message issued after the official declaration of results, the former President said he would work to strengthen the party’s base and help restore public confidence as the NPP prepares for the next general elections.
“I will devote my energy to support efforts to unite our party, reenergising our base and earning the trust of the Ghanaian people. Let us go to every community with confidence, let us listen, organise and work. Let us rise together,” Akufo-Addo said.
His call for unity follows the victory of former Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who emerged as the NPP’s flagbearer after polling 110,643 votes, representing 56.48 per cent of the total votes cast in the primary.
Kennedy Agyapong placed second with 46,554 votes, representing 23.76 per cent, while Dr Bryan Acheampong came third with 36,303 votes, representing 18.53 per cent. Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum followed in fourth place with 1,999 votes (1.02%), with Kwabena Agyei Agyepong placing fifth with 402 votes (0.21%).
The former President’s message has been interpreted by party supporters as a signal of renewed commitment to party cohesion, as the NPP seeks to rally its grassroots, heal internal divisions, and position itself strongly ahead of the upcoming general elections.
