A leading member of the former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia's team in the Wenchi constituency, a political stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has commended the delegates for endorsing him in the just-ended presidential primary in the area.
Kojo Frempong, in a media interview at Wenchi, shortly after the Electoral Commission (EC) announced the outcome of the constituency primary said, “The victory of Bawumia in 2026 is meaningless unless it is linked to the total victory of the NPP in the Election 2028,” he said.
He said Dr Bawumia's win in the constituency primary indicated that party delegates and supporters sought to regain political power in the 2028 elections.
Mr Frempong, also the NPP’s Election 2024 Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency, said he was highly optimistic that the former Vice President would be chosen as the party’s Election 2028 flagbearer.
However, he asked the delegates and supporters of Alhaji Dr Bawumia in the constituency to be moderate in their jubilations, saying that “Bawumia’s victory here is a victory for the NPP”.
Alhaji Dr Bawumia secured 491 of the 711 valid votes cast, with his closest contender, Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, receiving 145.
Dr Bryan Acheampong also received 66 votes, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum 8 votes, and Dr Kwabena Agyei Agyepong 1 vote in the elections, which ended peacefully and successfully at Wenchi.
