The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Mali has reportedly called on the Malian Football Federation (FEMAFOOT) to dismiss head coach Tom Saintfiet following the country’s disappointing campaign at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Mali’s early exit from the continental tournament has sparked criticism from supporters and officials, with the Sports Ministry said to be pushing for changes to the technical bench as part of a broader restructuring of the national team.
The development comes just days after Saintfiet publicly denied reports suggesting he had stepped down from his role. The Belgian coach insisted he remained committed to the job and was focused on rebuilding the team despite the AFCON setback.
FEMAFOOT is yet to issue an official statement on the Ministry’s reported request, leaving uncertainty over Saintfiet’s immediate future in charge of the Eagles.
