The Bono Regional Police Command has recovered five assorted firearms and shot dead a suspected robber during an intelligence-led operation in the Region.
A press release issued by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer of the Command, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said police intelligence gathered on February 11, 2026, indicated that a gang had planned to attack traders travelling along the Dormaa-Gonokrom highway.
It said surveillance teams were immediately deployed to thwart the planned robbery.
“In the early hours of February 12, 2026, officers advancing near a parked motorbike came under gunfire from nearby bushes. Police returned fire and, at daybreak, found one male suspect dead with an AK47 rifle beside him,” the release said.
The release said a further search led to the recovery of a sack containing additional weapons and ammunition, including two Baikal single-barrelled guns, a pump-action gun, and one Beretta pistol loaded with three 9mm rounds and 34 9mm rounds.
Police also recovered one AK-47 rifle loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition and 10 additional rounds, 39 rounds of BB cartridges, one dagger, a mobile phone, a Honda motorbike, a black mask and a set of talismans.
“The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation, identification and autopsy,” the release said.
The Command assured the public that efforts were underway to identify and arrest the remaining gang members to face justice.
It appealed to the public to provide credible information to support ongoing efforts to enhance safety and security in the Region.
