The Adabraka District Court has remanded a 45-year-old businessman into police custody for allegedly possessing firearms and ammunition without authority.
The accused, Alhassan Illiyasu, also known as Arab Man, was alleged to have possessed two foreign-made pump action guns, an AK47 assault rifle, seven boxes of BB cartridges and a box of AA cartridges.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Apeweh Achana, prayed the court to preserve the plea of Illiyasu, who has been charged with three counts of “possession of firearms and ammunition without authority.”
The court did not take his plea pending further investigations and remanded him into custody.
He is expected to reappear on March 9, 2026.
Four bulletproof vests, a black face mask, two cutlasses, two Samsung phones, an iPhone, a wristwatch, and a CCTV monitor were also retrieved from his residence.
Facts before the court indicated that Illiyasu resided at Roman Down, Ashiaman.
On January 7, 2026, the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police received information that he was being sought in connection with a robbery case at Adabraka Gold Shop and had been sighted at Ashiaman Roman Down.
The information suggested that he had returned from a construction site with a sack suspected of containing firearms and ammunition.
A team, with the assistance of the Ashaiman District Police Command, proceeded to the area and arrested him.
A search of his room allegedly led to the retrieval of two pump action guns, 239 BB cartridges and 43 rounds of AK47 live ammunition concealed in a bag, together with four bulletproof vests, a black face mask, two cutlasses, two Samsung phones, an iPhone, a wristwatch and a CCTV monitor.
During investigations, Illiyasu was unable to explain how he came by the items.
He, however, stated that although the items were in his possession, he did not use them for “any illegal activities.”
