Traders at Kasoa Old Market have raised concerns over the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly’s plan to demolish several temporary structures to make way for new store construction.
The Kasoa Petty Traders Association, representing nearly 1,000 traders, warned that the move would negatively affect hundreds of traders who cannot afford the rent for the new stores.
Appiah Roger, the association’s secretary, described the assembly’s actions as contradictory to the government’s 24-Hour Economy Policy during a press briefing with Adom News.
The traders are calling for the decision to be revoked and for a more extensive dialogue to be held.
Some traders vowed to continue their protest “until they lose their last blood,” with many appealing to President John Dramani Mahama for intervention.
