The controversy over ownership of Expresso Telecom has resurfaced with the founders debunking reports that the former National Security Coordinator, Colonel Larry Gbevlo-Lartey has been appointed the company’s Acting CEO.
Colonel Gbevlo Lartey is reported to have assumed office sometime in October last year after he was approved by the company’s majority shareholders, Sudatel.
But K-SAN Law Firm, lawyers for Kludjeson International Limited, founders of the company, contend neither the shareholders nor the board has appointed him to act in any capacity in the company.
A statement issued by the lawyers cites Accra-Based CITI FM as carrying the report about the appointment of the Former National Security Coordinator in December last year.
Five directors of EXPRESSO including the Past Managing Director, Amir Ahmed El Amir Yousif resigned Between March 2013 and May 2014 according to a letter addressed to the Registrar General. In the same letter, the former National Security Co-ordinator and two others were named as the two new directors as part of restructuring of the company’s operations.
But the lawyers insist, Kludjeson International Limited remains owners of the company and has not approved the purported appointment as the law requires.
According to the release, Colonel Gbevlo Lartey himself gave them the mandate to issue the rejoinder after their client made contact with him and he denied issuing any official statement on his appointment - adding that he and his family are surprised by the publication.
The lawyers also enumerated a number of entities reported in the media as shareholders of the company as being illegal, making reference to the regulation of the company. They include Hutchison Telecom Limited, Hutchison Telecom International Limited, Sudatel, Sudan Telecom Limited, Expresso Telecom Limited and Expresso.
