The Ghana Police Service has launched an intensive investigation to identify and apprehend a group of motorcyclists captured in a viral video physically assaulting a uniformed officer on the Kaneshie-Obetsebi Lamptey corridor.

The victim, Sergeant Emmanuel Agbugbla Teye of the Kaneshie Accident Squad, was reportedly attacked while performing his lawful duties on Friday, 20th March 2026.

According to preliminary police reports, the confrontation began at approximately 10:05 a.m. when Sergeant Teye spotted a motorbike with registration number M-26-GR-1024 riding dangerously against the flow of traffic.

The rider was allegedly heading from Kaneshie Mpaprom toward the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange on the wrong side of the road, a move that posed a severe risk to oncoming vehicles and pedestrians.

Acting on recent reports of motorbike-related hit-and-run incidents in the area, Sergeant Teye intercepted the rider for questioning.

As the officer attempted to enforce the law, a group of other motorcyclists suddenly converged on the scene. The group physically subjected the Sergeant to an assault before fleeing the area.

The brazen nature of the attack, which was filmed and widely circulated on social media, prompted an immediate review by the Police Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team on Saturday.

The Police Administration has vowed that every individual involved in the "physical subjection" of the officer will be tracked down and dealt with according to the laws of the country.

In a statement released following the review of the footage, the Ghana Police Service reiterated that assaulting a law enforcement officer in uniform is a serious criminal offence that undermines national security and the rule of law.

"The Police will pursue and apprehend all suspects who might have played a role in the attack on the law enforcement officer and will be dealt with in accordance with the law," the statement read.

The public is being urged to cooperate with the police by providing any information that could lead to the arrest of the riders involved. This latest incident highlights the growing tension between traffic enforcement officers and recalcitrant commercial motorcyclists in the capital.
