Nana Adjei Baffour Awuah, Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, has expressed doubts over the effectiveness of the newly passed Value for Money Office Bill 2026, noting that its mandate is intrinsically linked to broader procurement systems. He spoke on JoyNews Newsfile on Saturday, 28 March.
Baffour Awuah argued that the office cannot function in isolation and must operate within a framework that ensures clarity in roles, responsibilities, and enforcement mechanisms.
“The Value for Money Office is only meaningful if it has a clear operational mandate, integrated within the existing legal and institutional structures,” he said.
The legislation, passed in Parliament earlier this year, aims to create an independent body to strengthen oversight of government spending and public sector procurement. It is designed to enhance efficiency, accountability, and transparency across public financial management.
Baffour Awuah cautioned that without strict alignment to existing laws and a clear operational blueprint, the Value for Money Office risks becoming ineffective.
He emphasised that proper implementation and enforcement would be key to ensuring the institution delivers tangible results for the public.
