Political analyst Dr Jonathan Asante Otchere has cautioned against attempts to question the integrity of newly appointed Majority Leader, James Agalga, saying his personality and experience could shape a firm approach to his new role.

Dr Asante Otchere said Mr Agalga, the Member of Parliament for Builsa North and former Deputy Minister for the Interior, was known for his calm demeanour but could be uncompromising when his integrity was challenged.

He said the new Majority Leader’s experience in government and Parliament would also be important as he takes charge of the Majority caucus.

Mr Agalga has assumed the leadership position following the appointment of former Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs-designate in President John Dramani Mahama’s latest ministerial reshuffle.

Speaking on Channel One TV on Saturday, August 8, Dr Asante Otchere said Mr Agalga was a “no-nonsense” personality who was unlikely to overlook attempts to impugn his character.

“The one taking over the Majority Leadership. And we all know that he’s also a smooth, slow talker like Mr. Ayariga. But he is more tough and a little bit no-nonsense person when he feels that you’re trying to indict his integrity, he will not pardon or forgive you,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Agalga has rejected suggestions that he could be intimidated by the demands of his new position, maintaining that his years of experience in Parliament have equipped him to lead the House effectively.
