Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with an alleged attempted armed robbery on the Hiakose-Newense stretch in the Manso Nkwanta District.

The suspect, identified as Francis Nsiah, was arrested after he sought medical attention for a gunshot wound sustained during the incident on Friday, August 7, 2026.

According to the Nkawie Divisional Police Command, its operations patrol team received information at about 11pm that an armed robbery was underway along the Hiakose-Newense road. Officers who responded to the distress call heard gunshots as they approached the area.

The police said the officers spotted one of the suspected robbers fleeing into a nearby bush with a bag and pursued him, while a subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of an iPhone 14 and a bag believed to belong to some of the victims.

The police later received information that one of the suspected robbers had reported to a medical facility for treatment after sustaining a gunshot injury.

Officers proceeded to the facility, where they arrested Nsiah. He was found to have suffered a gunshot wound to the left side of his buttock and is currently receiving medical treatment under police guard.

The Nkawie Divisional Police Command said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify and arrest other suspects believed to have been involved.
