Founder of Citizen Eye Ghana, Alex Tetteh, has praised Tema Regional Police Commander, DCOP Eric Asiedu Asamoah, and his team for their efforts in fighting drug trafficking and resisting bribery.

Mr Tetteh made the comments during a press engagement, where he called for DCOP Asiedu Asamoah to be promoted in recognition of his work and commitment to integrity.

His comments follow two major drug operations carried out under the commander’s leadership in recent months.

In July 2026, police officers in the Tema Region reportedly rejected a GH¢150,000 bribe offered by a suspect who allegedly wanted the release of a truck carrying 5,039 compressed parcels of suspected narcotic substances intercepted at Afienya.

On August 5, 2026, another intelligence-led operation at the Tema Port led to the seizure of 866 parcels of suspected cocaine concealed in sacks of gari. Three people, including a Dutch national and two Ghanaians, were arrested in connection with the operation.

Mr Tetteh said the officers’ refusal to accept bribes, despite the amounts allegedly involved, demonstrated professionalism and integrity.

He argued that such conduct deserves recognition and should encourage other officers to uphold high standards in the fight against crime.

“When an officer of this calibre refuses millions of dollars in bribes and successfully impounds major drug shipments, that deserves more than commendation, it deserves promotion,” Mr Tetteh said.

He also praised the wider Ghana Police Service leadership, saying the actions of DCOP Asiedu Asamoah and his team reflect the discipline and professionalism expected within the service.

DCOP Asiedu Asamoah, who leads the Tema Regional Police Command, has experience in areas including law enforcement, criminal investigations, crisis management, emergency management and counter-terrorism.

Mr Tetteh said the recent operations show the importance of strengthening professionalism and integrity within Ghana’s security services.

He urged authorities to recognise officers who demonstrate commitment to their duties and provide them with the support needed to continue fighting drug trafficking and other forms of organised crime.
