The Chief Executive Officer of PPL Net Ghana Limited has welcomed the inauguration of the company’s new Board of Directors, describing it as an opportunity to demonstrate the potential of an all-Ghanaian telecommunications network.

The CEO said the company intends to challenge the perception that telecommunications networks must be large in scale to operate efficiently.

He said PPL Net would focus on growing its subscriber base while maintaining operational efficiency as it seeks to strengthen its position in Ghana’s telecommunications market.

“This is an opportunity for us to demonstrate what an all-Ghanaian telecommunications network can truly do. For too long, there has been a belief that a network has to be enormous to be efficient. We intend to challenge that thinking,” the CEO stated.

The CEO also commended staff for keeping the network operational through what he described as a challenging period leading up to the inauguration of the board.

He said the dedication of employees had been critical to sustaining the company’s operations.

“I want to speak directly to the team that has worked with me through what has, at times, been a genuinely stressful period. Despite the challenges, we kept this network running. That did not happen by accident — it happened because of the dedication of people who believed in what we are building,” he said.

He also expressed appreciation to the government for its support and confidence in the company, saying the leadership recognised the significance of the current phase of PPL Net’s development.

With the new board now in place, the CEO said the company would focus on demonstrating its capacity across operations, technology and commercial activities.

“We will not let Ghana down. We are going to work hard, grow this network responsibly, and make this country proud of what we build together,” he said.

Communications Minister Sam George also disclosed that PPL Net Ghana Limited must meet key legal and regulatory requirements, including submitting outstanding audited accounts, before it can receive additional spectrum.

Speaking ahead of the swearing-in of the company’s new Board of Directors, Mr George said the National Communications Authority (NCA) could not legally allocate spectrum to a company that had failed to submit its audited accounts.

The inauguration of the board marks a new phase in the governance and operations of PPL Net as it seeks to expand its market presence and strengthen the telecom business.

PPL Net Ghana Limited owns the assets and operates the telecommunications brand AT Ghana.

The company was established in November 2024 to take over the assets and staff of AT Ghana, with the stated objective of preserving jobs and creating a platform for eventual investment.

The restructuring was intended to separate the operating assets from the substantial liabilities associated with Airtel Ghana, which has outstanding obligations to creditors.

The company is expected to attract close attention within the telecommunications industry as it seeks to increase its market share and build a commercially sustainable operation.

Its new board and management will therefore face the task of translating government support and the company’s existing assets into stronger subscriber growth, operational efficiency and long-term commercial viability.
