Lawyer for senior nursing officer Salomey Awiti-Baffoe says the GH¢100,000 bail granted to his client by the Adenta Circuit Court is a relief after an earlier bail application was rejected by the High Court.
Lead counsel Enoch Anhwere Afoakwa said the legal team is grateful to the court for granting Ms Awiti-Baffoe bail and is working to satisfy the conditions to secure her release.
“In fact, we are extremely happy and grateful to the court for granting Madam Salomey Awiti-Baffoe bail this morning,” he said.
The court granted the accused bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties, both of whom must be civil servants earning not less than GH¢3,000 per month.
Mr Afoakwa said the legal team is taking steps to secure suitable sureties and complete the administrative processes required for her release.
“We believe that the process will move faster so that liberty, as the court has ordered, will be restored,” he said.
Ms Awiti-Baffoe is facing an alleged false news publication charge linked to the Ghana Jollof TikTok case.
According to her lawyer, although she has been affected by her time in custody, the immediate priority is to secure her release and allow the legal process to continue.
The case has been adjourned to February 18, 2027, when the prosecution is expected to proceed with the matter and serve the defence with the relevant disclosure documents.
