Ghana’s fastest rapper, Sakordie Obidi popularly known as Sarkodie has said that he writes his music with respect to the mood he is in at a particular time. The name Sarkodie has quickly become a house hold name after a couple of mix tapes, features and the success of his first album ‘Makye’ which has hit songs like 'Push' and ‘Baby’ featuring Mugeez of R2Bees fame. “When writing the lyrics for my song, what I need is the first line and my feelings also count. But generally my talent comes from God” The fast tongue twisting rapper said in an interview with Super Morning Show host Kojo Oppong Nkrumah on Wednesday. Sarkodie said he has devoted his time to music and rap which has become a basic part of his life. The rapper who sometimes goes by the accolade, ‘One time for your mind’ said he developed his rap personally and through other things he picked up from basic school like rhymes and therefore he has rhythm in him. “I have rhythm in me every time of the day.” He said. Sarkodie opined that Ghanaian music has failed to reach higher heights as compared to their Nigerian counterparts, ostensibly because the Ghanaians fail to promote their own culture. “Music is a subset of the set,” he said, adding that Ghanaians ignore the culture bit of the whole set of music and rather concentrate only on the money making aspect. The lyrically based rapper says he is diversifying his music now to fit everybody. “I listen to people’s comments and I try to satisfy the majority. I take criticism seriously that is why I am doing different songs now to satisfy everybody especially the ladies with songs like ‘Baby’.” He said. “I do tongue twisting for the youth and later break it down for the elderly.” He added. Sarkodie who has done a lot of mix tapes has one album 'Makye' to his credit and says he is in the studio working on his second album 'Rapper-holic' which will be out soon. He is signed under the Dancus Entertainment record label and he is managed by Dr. Duncan of Adom FM who discovered him through ‘kasahari’ a program on that station. His ‘Makye’ album can boasts of hits like Baby, Push and Borga. The 'Borga' song he said seeks to tell people to come home to help not to stay abroad and suffer and that, they will be better of here than there. Some of his famous mix tape songs are; Am so hood (GH remix), Political and Hustler. Touching on his fame, the rapper said “People think stardom means I should be in the clouds but it is more than that.” Fame comes with a lot of expectations, he added. “You need to have time for yourself and try to locate your abilities to see what you can do," he advised. Music shouldn’t be the only profession and that they can achieve more if they examine themselves properly. Story by Aglanu Dela Ernest/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
